- LOVE it!
I've been using Zorb as the hidden layer in my cloth diaper inserts and mama cloth for a couple years now and I love it! It absorbs quickly, evenly distributes moisture throughout the pad/insert rather than having a concentrated wet spot, and helps to reduce drying time. Zorb also doesn't get stinky the way that microfiber can. It's a must-have product for diaper & mama cloth sewers in my opinion!
- Works for me
I have a baby boy that is a heavy, fast wetter. I have been searching many materials for the "bullet proof" diaper. I started with microfiber-leaked, then added hemp-helped but created gaps in the legs with lead to leaking, then switched to kitchen flour sack towels-leaked, then added hemp-bulky, and although the KFST with hemp did work, it was super bulky. Was I asking too much for it to be trim too ;P. I heard about Zorb next. The description was too good to be true. I bought several yards and crossed my fingers.
After using these for several weeks I have discovered that although not "bullet proof", they do really well. I use 2 layers (I know 3 is recommended) sandwiched between suede cloth and an old receiving blanket. Under it I fold a hemp insert (2-3 layers) under the pee zone. This usually works without leaks as long as I change him within 2 hours or so. If he gets more than one pee in, it's too much and the pee finds an escape route along the leg holes (even with double gussets).
The zorb seems to absorb as much as the kfst did, but it did not do one thing as advertised for me. It was said that it absorbs quickly and spreads it throughout the rest of the insert. I find that only the front and bottom of the insert is wet and not the back. The hemp underneath slows the strong forceful pee and can be moderately wet to soaked and still zorb is not always completely wet. Could be how my baby pees or maybe I suck at sewing and did something wrong? Either way, they do really well and are trim. I am happy with my purchase. Still have to use disposables at night though...
- So Far, So Good....
I bought a 10 yard bolt and have made mommacloth and diaper inserts out of it, and so far I love both... It feels like a rather rigid material when you first start working with it, but once you get it "sandwiched" with some flannel, or PUL & Jersey, or w/e you end up putting it inside and give it a wash or two it "loosens up" and actually very "natural" feeling when used as mommacloth, and I assume feels the same on my DD's bum...
- Can't live without this stuff...
Thankfully, I've never even tried to go the route of only using traditional clothes in my pads, I went straight to the good stuff. A lot of reading was involved in this decision and it's paid off. I am so glad that I've found this product.
This product is virtually stupid proof to sew with, too. Very forgiving of novices. Just make sure you layer it between two layers of cloth!! And if you're using two layers of ZORB then sew a layer of cotton between them. Nothing fancy required. You can use junk cloth if you like. I certainly do. Old bedsheets and pillow cases are cut up for a good cause here.
Here's a helpful hint that any woman could appreciate in trying to get the coverage you need without bulk elsewhere-- learn to hand whipstitch bulky fabrics. It's not difficult, just make sure your needle is big enough. The reason why learning to whipstitch thick cloth is helpful is that once you have your main large area cut for the length of the pad you can go back and use another smaller square to stitch into the larger pad and place it where you know from experience you'll need it the most. Just MAKE VERY SURE that you remember to put a layer of cotton cloth between these two layers of ZORB. Drawing the template on the ZORB and cutting the fabric takes longer than it does to sew. Seriously! It's very fast.
I made my own template for mama cloths using my own panties. Trial and error but SOooo worth it!! I get them exactly like I like them as a result. I'll never ever go back to store-bought products. Ever. Ever ever. Positively NEVER.
Another helpful hint-- small circles of precut velcro- found in any Walmart- is perfect for a replacement for metal snaps. I get out some E6000 glue and put a big dot on the already stick velcro pieces. Stick it on the wings, making sure that I've got the perfect length of wings of course, and then let it dry for 12-24 hours. Voila!! Instant security in mama pads.
I can't work any mechanical appliance to put in snaps because I have damaged hands so glued-on velcro was the best idea I could come up with. It works like a charm.
I hope every woman who learns about ZORB gives this a try. Amazing material. Very forgiving while sewing. Deceptively absorbent. When I made my first pads I didn't believe how absorbent it was. To confirm it, I held the pad under running water. When it couldn't hold any more water I held the pad in my hands and felt the heft of it. Unreal!!! This stuff is better than a sponge-- it actually holds it right where you need it as long as you have a good design you're working with.
Oh, and put PUL in the entire pad, not just along the inner area of the pad itself. My PUL uses the same template as the outer layer fabric I use(which is an old cut up bed sheet, lol) so the entire back surface of the pad is leak-proof.
Ladies, get crafty and save yourself a ton of money!! This ZORB product breathes and allows your skin the air necessary to stay healthy. I ordered only two yards of it and have made over two dozen heavy duty pads with it, one extra square in each included. For the $$ you can't beat it!! Go buy some today!! For the star rating system here on the site I'd give it a 100 stars, not just 5.
- Great Stuff!!
I was given a yard of this by my mom to make cloth menstrual pads with. I was skeptical because it felt kind of scratchy. Boy, am I glad she gave it to me! It was pretty easy to sew with one I got used to the bulk. I had to go slow the first pad or two. I wore them right away, and didn't like it. Then washed one, and the Heavens descended to earth in the form of that pillow like cloth for my least favorite time of the month! It fluffed a bit upon washing, which sounds like it would probably make you angry, but it doesn't warp the other fabrics. It just enhances the zorb! I have purchased a couple more yards and am making more things with it. Diapers, more pads for myself and for potty training, as well as a potty training cover for my toddler's bed! This is wonderful stuff! I am excited to finally try Zorb II as well!
I just received my ZORB today and promptly set out to test it. I am using it for my male senior dogs. I have 2 with incontinence issues and both are large dogs with 10 gallon bladders. i cut 3 layers of ZORB and sewed them together at the edges. I then placed them into my custom belly bands over the top of disposable male incontinence pads. Right on que, my boys let loose and not one drop of urine came out of their belly bands. I removed them immediately to inspect and was quite impressed!!! While the outer covers were moist to the touch, they were not spilling urine everywhere. What I found was that the ZORB acted as a funnel and collected all of the urine in a small area, leading it into the disposable pad underneath. I MAY GET MY HOUSE BACK THANKS TO ZORB!!
- Super Pleased
First I want to say that my product was shipped extremely fast which is a wonderful thing. Second the Zorb was very easy to cut & sew with. I paired it with wicking fabric & pul to make an awesome absorbent cloth menstrual pad that washes well & dries quickly. I will definitely be purchasing more.
- Nothing absorbs like Zorb
Thick and super absorbent. It absorbs like nothing I've ever seen, its amazing. It would make an excellent absorbent layer for reusable/washable panty-liners, nursing pads, incontinence pads, diapers, etc.
